Crawford Architects response for the upgrade of NSW PolAir facility provides a centre of international quality at Bankstown Airport. It strengthens the existing footprint of the airport facilities and the NSW Aviation Support Branches centre of operations. The consolidated and upgraded facilities demonstrate a point of difference within the airport precinct yet maintain their tradition as a good neighbour to the surrounding buildings.
Crawford Architects have identified an innovative yet proportional approach to this next chapter of PolAir’s history at their Bankstown Airport base. The form of the hangars and the supporting buildings closely relate to the neighbouring airport amenities in colour material, scale and detail whilst maximising the opportunity of a new location.
A simple palette of materials detailed carefully, creates an impression of strength and longevity. Limited decoration means the design is clear in its intent through a solution inspired by massing, formulated through a structural response to the buildings objectives.
