The steep and narrow site for this project fronts directly onto one of Sydney’s northern beaches and enjoys dramatic views toward the east and south.
The beach house needed to fulfill two functions; during the week as a residence for two with a separate retreat/study area, and during weekends as a residence for up to 20 including children and guests. A relaxed, simple and unpretentious solution was sought. These factors directed the approach taken; a cluster of four separately roofed pavilions linked by stairs and an inclinator. This concept enabled provision of the required spaces while ensuring each had access to views and courtyard gardens.
